For me, the idea of giving something up for lent is to sacrifice. I gave up eating as much as I want. I joined a well known weight loss plan and now eat a limited number of points per day. This is a sacrifice that also has a health benefit. Please do not think I am some weight loss plan spammer now 🙂 What I am trying to say is that sacrifice can be good for us, and also good for our relationship with the Lord.

I agree with you that the essence of Lent is sacrifice. Good for you that you’ve sacrificed an aspect of your eating! May your relationship with God be strengthen because of it.
