I have previously written about the value of writing and speaking aloud affirmations using scripture – scripture that is read from a first person perspective. This is helpful because when we make God’s truths and His love for us very personal, we receive strength and power and life!
Over the years, I’ve practiced taking scripture and then turing it into an affirmation or a confession of faith.
One of my favorite scriptures to read as an affirmation is Paul’s prayer for spiritual strength to the Ephesians. I have this typed out on a 3×5 card and it’s placed in my Bible and I try to read it often.
I encourage you to open your Bible and first read Ephesians 3:16-21 as it is written. Then slowly and prayerfully, with faith and belief, read the following out loud:
A Prayer for Strength and Spiritual Growth
“I pray that from Your glorious, unlimited resources You will empower me with inner strength through Your Spirit. Then Your Son, Christ Jesus, will make His home in my heart as I trust in Him. My roots will grow down into Your love and keep me strong. And may I have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep Your love really is. May I experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then I will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from You.
Now all glory to You, God. You are able, through Your mighty power at work within me, to accomplish infinitely more than I might ask or think. Glory to You in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.” Ephesians 3:16-21
The above scripture is taken from the New Living Translation. (See my note below on how to print a nice copy of this for your personal use!)
Consider making affirmations using Bible verses a practice. My prayer for you is that this spiritual discipline will strengthen your faith and relationship with God. And this deeper relationship and faith may have a beneficial side affect – you may have greater desire and strength to care for your body, the temple of the Holy Spirit. (1 Corinthians 3:16)
If you know of someone who might be blessed by and enjoy this affirmation, then forward this blog post along to them.
