As we approach Christmas day, more and more my thoughts are about Jesus.
Ultimately, this ministry is about the Son of God – who he is and the significance of having an intimate relationship with him.
We are told in the Bible that God’s greatest commandments are to love him with all our heart and to love others as we love ourselves. On the surface, these seem like pretty straightforward and simple commandments. But when you take time to reflect and meditate on what this actually means, you recognize that all the truths found in the Bible support having loving and strong relationships in each of these three areas. And there are many, many truths, or principles, in the Bible that apply!
And, it begins with appreciating who Jesus is and why God sent him to earth.
Jesus was sent to live and to die for your sins. When you accept this fact and embrace it as your personal truth, and ask Jesus to be the Lord of your life, then you begin to be changed from the inside out. And you will never stop changing until you are with God in heaven.
Unless a person accepts Jesus as their Savior, they will remain disconnected with the God of the universe forever.
God’s perfect design is that he sends his Spirit to live within us once we begin a relationship with Jesus. The Holy Spirit guides us and empowers us to become more and more like Jesus. It’s by God’s grace and the Spirit’s power that we become sanctified.
One aspect of God’s beautiful design is that the more we live out the truths of the bible… the deeper we grow in our relationship with God, it favors improved emotional, relational, mental and physical health. And the better our whole-person health is, the greater vitality we have and the better we are enabled to live out our life purpose, which is to serve God in a way that he is glorified.
This all begins with the birth of Jesus and the opportunity that we have to enter into a relationship with him.
This is why Christmas day – celebrating the birth of Jesus – is such a special one.
And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them. Luke 2:6-7
