How does the blood of Jesus relate to the care of your body and health?
Jesus paid a high price for our lives and for our freedom from sin. As Christians, we’re especially sensitive to this during Easter Week as we’re reminded of what he went through in the hours before he was crucified on the cross and of the horrific death he experienced. It was not only the physical brutality and death that Jesus had to endure, he was spiritually separated from his Father for a period of time. This had to be the worst thing that the Son of God experienced in his life.
Paul reminds us that Jesus paid a high price for us:
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
In this passage, Paul also instructs us to honor God with our body. Are you doing that?
Are you careful about what you put into your body, God’s temple? Are you keeping it pure by not having sexual relations outside of marriage? Are you giving your body a healthy dose of physical activity? Are you giving it the regular rest it needs? Do you get adequate sleep on an on-going basis? Do you keep your eyes from viewing or reading content that would be distasteful to God? Are you using your body in service for His Kingdom?
Jesus shed his blood for us to be able to have life. And living the Christian life is all about glorifying God. Part of glorifying God is caring for our body which is his temple.
At Easter, let’s be reminded that Jesus paid a high price for us to honor his Father with not only our lives but our bodies. Are you doing that?
If you are neglecting your health, perhaps this reminder will motivate you to take better care of your body.
Have a blessed Easter.
