July 26, 2017 By Dale Fletcher Leave a Comment

Wellness Revelation Book ReviewThis post of Alisa Keeton’s new book, The Wellness Revelation – Lose What Weighs You Down So You Can Love God, Yourself and Others, is a short review of Week 1, Embrace God’s Purpose, Desire and Design.

Each of the weeks or chapters of the book include the following sections:

Reading the material related to the week’s topic.

Responding to what you’ve read, by answering questions in the book, making an entry in a journal, and watching and participating in the videos. (Daily videos are accessed via an online calendar.)

Renewing your soul by reading scripture and reflecting on it’s application to your life.

Appreciate how the week’s materials Relate to you by answering questions and sharing your responses with others, if you’re working through this book with a group.

Be challenged to Reciprocate. You’ll read an inspiring story of how people have ministered to others in the context of wellness and fitness and be challenged to reflect on how you might make a difference in the lives of others.

Week 1 is about understanding what God’s will is for your life, in the context of being healthy and well.

Excerpts from the Week 1 Chapter – Embrace God’s Purpose, Desire and Design

“God desires to show us His power and ability. We are to do all things in His power His way, not in our own. This includes weight loss and health gains.”

“For The Wellness Revelation to really transform our lives, we must soften our hearts. We need to remember our stories: where we come from and what God has already done for us. He has guided us every step of the way, planting and growing in us His purpose, His power, and His strength. God wants to remove the burden that we carry when we think that everything hinges on our might and that they “win, lose, or tie” is all within our control. It is just not true. God desires to be our strength in all things.”

“God’s power is made perfect in our weakness.  (See 2 Corinthians 12:9). For His strength to change us as we work through this program, we must surrender all of ourselves to Him. We must lay it all down with a humble heart.”

“For the next eight weeks, we will be learning about and coming back to God’s desire for us to be holy and whole. They exist together. The more we commit to God’s way (holiness), the more whole we will become. This program is an opportunity to be put back together again by the One who made us and who knows where all the pieces go. He is the best psychologist, friend, personal trainer, life coach, and nutritionist we could ever have. God desires to come intimately near to us so He can reconstruct us to look more like Him. After all, this was his original plan: “Then God said,”Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.’ ” (Genesis 12:6,  NLT).”

“Currently we face a growing epidemic in the United States. As of 2014, 70% of Americans were overweight, and this number keeps growing. At the other end of the spectrum, some people engage in extreme bodybuilding (As I did) or have been trapped by eating disorders. Either way, too many of us are putting a lot of stress and strain on His design. We are no longer true reflections of his creation. We are not free to live and love as God originally designed us to.”

“Let’s get back to who we were created to be. You are His one of a kind masterpiece. No other you has ever existed or will ever exist again. It’s time to care for His creation – His design.”

“In the next three weeks, through the use of your workout calendar, we will be intentional about getting you ready for healthy movement.”

A Must See Video

In the first video on the calendar for Week 1 Alisa introduces herself and sets the stage for what this book, and the experience you’ll have reading it, is all about.

My Comments

This week is all about seeing yourself as God sees you. It’s about appreciating all the various ways that we have veered from His design for our lives.

God desires that you be holy, set apart from the ways of the world, and to be as whole as possible this side of heaven. I’m sure that Alisa will be guiding her readers down a path toward greater wholeness as they make their way through the book and engage in the materials and videos!
