The Cross and Love

April 18, 2014 By Dale Fletcher 2 Comments

It’s early Friday morning and I’m sitting out back listening to the birds and the water gently spilling into a pool in our small water fountain.

If you’re a follower of Jesus, I encourage you to read this as an affirmation of your faith.

the Cross and loveThe Cross on Calvary means everything to me. It’s where Jesus died so that I can live.

In the Garden, Jesus determined to absolutely surrender to his Father’s will – “Not my will, but yours.” Matthew 26:39 His obedience to the Father makes my freedom from sin possible.

Before he was crucified on the Cross, Jesus was flogged – beaten. Mark 15:15. He bled crimson blood so that God can see me and my sins as white as snow. His work to defeat sin and death is now finished! John 19:30

Jesus was the perfect sacrifice – the Lamb of God – for my sins. Because I believe this, my sins – all my sins – are forgiven. Forever.

Surely, Jesus is the Son of God! Matthew 27:54

In God’s eyes, I’m totally acceptable.  In Jesus, I’m righteous. Romans 3:21-24  In Jesus, I’m a new creation. 2 Corinthians 5:17  In Jesus, I’m a child of God. John 1:12

God loves me. So does Jesus. That’s why he went to the Cross. John 3:16

Thank you Jesus… for the Cross.

I love you.

    Dear Dale,
Thank you for this most beautiful, heart-felt act of worship to our Savior who suffered unimaginably to wash us clean. How you love God and how you love others is the embodiment of obedience to Mark 12:30-31 30 “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ 31 The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”

After a day of church worship, spending quiet time at God’s feet, and watching the Passion of the Christ, our day ended seeing the movie “God’s Not Dead”. It was a wonderful, fitting punctuation to our day’s devotion of being grateful for the death and resurrection of Jesus! He is risen indeed!
