A few weeks ago, my wife and I moved into a new house. Part of the settling in process has been attending to the lawn and to the flowers that we brought with us from our old house. I enjoy maintaining a nice lawn and carrying for flowers so getting the outside of the house in shape is an interest of mine.
The grass in the new lawn is Bermuda grass. The previous owner had allowed weeds to creep in and there were numerous bare spots throughout the lawn. I have fertilized and applied some weed control to help improve the appearance of the lawn and to green it up some. This type of grass spreads fairly easily and to assist with the spreading I have thrown down some sand in many of the bare spots. With the right amount of sunlight, warm temperatures and water the bare spots should fill in over the next 60 days or so.
Just as grass requires the proper ingredients to be healthy and to grow, our spirit must receive proper nurturing so that it is fully alive and flourishing.
As human beings, we are a spirit that has a soul (mind, will and emotions) which lives in a body. Our spirit requires spiritual food to keep it alive and healthy. To nurture our spirit we need a regular dose of reading God’s word, prayer, and time alone with God – or abiding in Jesus.
I encourage you to be attentive to how you are feeding your spirit. As a believer in Christ, our life purpose is to become more like Him so that God is glorified by how we live our life. The more you feed your spirit with healthy ‘food,’ the more vibrant your life will be and the more glory God will receive.
Have a blessed day!
