Scriptures About the Heart

Scripture is clear that the heart is hugely important as far as one’s well being and health are concerned. God’s greatest commandment to us it to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’  Mark12:30

Many of the following Bible verses about the heart are related to one’s personal health and wellness.

Proverbs 4:23
 – Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.

Proverbs 14:30 – 
A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.

Proverbs 15:13
 – A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

Proverbs 17:22 – 
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Proverbs 27:19
 – As water reflects a face, so a man’s heart reflects the man.

Proverbs 28:14
 – Blessed is the man who always fears the LORD, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.

Matthew 9:22
 – Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed from that moment.

Matthew 11:29
 – Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Matthew 12:34
 – You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks.

Luke 6:45
 – The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.

Matthew 13:15
 – For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’

Matthew 15:18
 – But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.’

Matthew 15:19 – 
For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.

Matthew 18:35 – 
”This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother from your heart.”

Matthew 22:37
 – Jesus replied: ” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

Mark 7:21-22
 – For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly.

Luke 21:34
 – “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life.

John 7:38
 – Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’”

John 14:1
 – [ Jesus, the Way to the Father ] “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.

John 14:27 – 
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Romans 5:5
 – And this hope will not lead to disappointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love.

Romans 10:9-10 – 
If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved.

Ephesians 1:18
 – I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Philippians 4:7
 – Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 2:1
 – [ Have the Attitude of Christ ] Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate?

Colossians 3:15
 – And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.

Hebrews 10:22 – Let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.

Ephesians 3:16-18
 –  I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
