Want to Be Fit? Exercise
Your Faith!

Perhaps you're motivated to become fit because you have a health condition
that is out of control. Maybe you're overweight and it's preventing
you from being as active as you'd like to be. Or, perhaps your blood
pressure, cholesterol or blood sugar level is sky high. In your
attempt to make changes you may have tried many approaches to
starting an exercise program and been unsuccessful. Have you
diligently leaned on your faith and God's power to help you turn
things around through exercising and other related health behavior
changes? Let's take a glance at what that might look like. After all,
I think that God would want you to be as healthy as possible so that
you can better do the great things He has planned for you!!

Manage Your Stress... with God's Help
We all have
stress in our lives. It can be in the form of inconveniences, chronic
problems or major life issues and events. Stress can come from long lines
at the store or from the demands at home or work. We can also be
stressed by the loss of a loved one or by holding deep resentment
against someone.
When
we experience or think about a stressful situation, our brain
activates the nervous and endocrine systems to prepare to fight or
flight. Hormones and chemicals like cortisol and adrenaline are
released into the body. This results in an
increase in metabolism, blood pressure and heart rate and can have
other physiological affects that are harmful if they are continually
released for long periods of time. Our challenge regarding our health
is to minimize the frequency and length of time that our nervous
system stays chronically aroused. We can do this with God's help.

More Americans Are Taking
Prescription Medications
I can't help but believe that a strong personal faith would
reduce the need for so many people being on prescription
medications. This news report indicates that we're a nation of
people who rely on drugs to compensate for our lifestyle
behaviors. Here's the beginning of the article:
"For the first time, it appears that more than half of all
insured Americans are taking prescription medicines regularly for
chronic health problems, a study shows. The most widely used drugs
are those to lower high blood pressure and cholesterol - problems often
linked to heart disease, obesity and diabetes.
Dr. Robert Epstein, chief medical officer at Franklin Lakes,
N.J.-based Medco, said he sees both bad
news and good in the findings.
"Honestly, a lot of it is related to obesity," he said.
"We've become a couch potato culture (and) it's a lot easier to
pop a pill" than to exercise regularly or diet."

Jesus, Laminin
and the Glue that Binds Us
Laminin is a cell adhesion protein.
It's important because it's the stuff that holds the membranes of our
bodies together. Without it, our bodies would literally fall apart. Laminins are an integral part of the structural
scaffolding in almost every human tissue. Read about it on Wikipedia.
What's amazing is that the shape and structure of this molecule is in
the form of a cross! Read about laminin,
the love of God and how He's in all the details of our lives at this
post on my blog.
Be sure to follow the link to a stirring video with more about laminin, Jesus and His love.

"If Jesus Was Your Personal Trainer"
Is your church in need of a retreat leader for its men's or singles
ministry? I invite you and your pastor to visit this
page on my site to learn more about a successful format of
a recent 3-day retreat I led for the men of Quail Hollow Presbyterian
Church in Charlotte.
Wholeness and spiritual, mental & physical fitness were the key
topics. If an off-site retreat is not feasible, this material can be
presented in a full-day workshop.
